Women's Tennis Falls At Maryland

College Park, M.D. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team lost their final regular season match of the year to No. 46 Maryland 4-3. With the tough loss, Wake Forest finished the regular season at 12-9 overall and 5-5 in the conference, while Maryland improved to 9-10 overall and 4-5 in the conference for the season.
Wake Forest came out strong in doubles, winning the early point, but could not capitalize to win the singles competition. At number one doubles, Karin Coetzee and Alex Hirsch, ranked 17th nationally, defeated Mariana Baker and Julia Graca 8-5. The number three doubles team of Blakely Offutt and Danielle Schwartz helped close out the doubles point victory with an 8-5 win over Ramona But and Masha Senic.
The singles play was difficult for the Deacons and they took only two of the six singles matches. Senior Katie Martzolf was a winner for Wake Forest at number three singles where she defeated Jennifer Dent 6-3, 6-2. The only other singles win for the Demon Deacons came at number four, where Hirsch knocked off Neda Mihneva 6-2, 6-0.
The Demon Deacons will begin tournament play on Thursday when they travel to Cary, N.C. to compete in the ACC Championships April 21-24.
