
Coetzee and Davis Earn All-ACC Honors

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior Karin Coetzee and sophomore Ashlee Davis were both selected to the women's tennis All-Atlantic Coast Conference team, as announced by the league Wednesday. This is the second consecutive year that both athletes have earned all-conference honors.
Coetzee, who is currently ranked #28 in the ITA singles poll, leads the Deacs in both singles and double victories. Playing for the majority of the year in the No. 1 position, Coetzee will enter this weekends conference tournament with a 22-10 overall singles record, including a 7-3 mark in the conference. Playing with partner Alex Hirsch in doubles, the pair is ranked 15th and together carry a 11-2 overall record. Named to the All-ACC team in 2004, the Blomefontein, South Africa native has the seventh highest winning percentage (singles) in Wake Forest history, along with the fifth most career doubles victories.
Joining Coetzee on the all-conference squad is Davis, an Anderson, Ind. native, who is currently ranked 57th in singles. Playing in both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, Davis has compiled a 17-14 overall record, including 11 victories this spring. In the ACC, she has compiled a 4-6 mark, with all four victories at the No. 2 position. Named the Rookie of the Year in 2004, Davis will play in the No. 2 spot in both singles and doubles this coming weekend at the ACC tournament.
Miami's Megan Bradley was tabbed ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Bradley, ranked No. 1 nationally in singles by the ITA, compiled an overall season record of 39-1, 20-0 in dual match play and a perfect 10-0 conference mark at the No. 1 singles position. She is currently riding a 34-match win streak which dates back to October 15, 2004.
Georgia Tech's Kristi Miller was selected as the ACC Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year, while the Rambling Wreck's Bryan Shelton was named ACC Coach of the Year.
The Demon Deacons will open tournament play against Virginia Tech, Thursday, April 21 at 3 p.m. If they win, they will move on to face Clemson, Friday, April 22 at 6 p.m. All matches will take place at the Cary Tennis Center, in Cary, N.C.
