Men's Track Signs Four

Winston-Salem, NC - Annie Bennett, the Director of Wake Forest Track and Field, announced the signing of four men to the 2005-06 track and field and cross country rosters. Jeremy Fisico, Robert Gielow, Mark Russell and Brent LaRue comprise the men's incoming recruiting class.

Jeremy Fisico hails from Windsor, Ontario Canada. The OFSAA (Ontario High School) 2004 Cross Country Champion, Fisico placed sixth at the Canadian National Junior Cross Country Championships in 2004. He also represented Canada at the World Cross Country Championships in France in March 2005, placing 89th overall. He owns a personal record of 8:30.70 in the 3k, which he ran during the 2005 indoor season. According to Dyestat High School Rankings, it was the best time by a high school athlete in both Canada and the United States.

Robert Gielow, a native of Gotha, Germany, spent the 2002-03 season at Midlothian High School in Midlothian, Va. There he competed in cross country and track and was a part of the 4x800m relay team that broke the state record in 2003. He owns a 1:53.05 in the 800m race and a 3:54.70 in the 1500m event.

Mark Russell, the winner of the New Balance Games in New York City during the indoor season, comes to Wake Forest from Lockport, New York. By winning the Games, he qualified for the prestigious high school invitational mile at the Millrose Games at Madison Square Gardens. Russell placed fifth overall at the Gardens. He has run the 1600m in 4:15.53 and the 3200m in 9:19.00.

Local star Brent LaRue travels across town from East Forsyth High School in Kernersville, NC to join the Deacons next season. LaRue was the 2004 metro 4A Conference athlete of the year and the team's MVP. He runs a 48.56 400m time and a 38.22 300m hurdle. He high jumps at 6 feet, four inches, long jumps at 21 feet, 10 inches and has finished the 110 meter hurdles in 14.14 seconds. "Brent is a great all around athlete," said track coach Scott Hall. "We are excited about him joining the team. He has a great competitive nature with a body frame that will enhance his strengths."

The four signees join the already signed female class of Mandy McBean, Adele Mitchell and Nicole Schappert.
