Women's Tennis Falls to Kentucky, 4-2

Lexington, Ky. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team rallied back from a 2-0 deficit, but late singles victories by Kentucky gave the Wildcats the victory, 4-2, in the second round of the NCAA tournament, Saturday evening at the University of Kentucky.
At the No. 1 singles position, senior Karin Coetzee blew past No. 3 Aibika Kalsarieva, 6-4, 6-2, improving her overall record to 24-10. Coetzee, who will next compete in the NCAA Individual Championships, is currently ranked No. 33 by the ITA. In addition to playing in singles, she will also compete in doubles with partner Alex Hirsch. Ashlee Davis will also represent Wake Forest in the singles championship, May 23-28.
Kentucky jumped out to an early lead, taking the double point with victories at the top two positions. As the singles competition started, the Wildcats went up by two with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Davis in the second spot. The Deacs knotted the score at two with victories by Coetzee and Hirsch at one and three, respectively. Winning the first set in a tiebreaker, senior Katie Martzolf took four games in the second set, but Joelle Schwenk came back in three and clinched the victory for Kentucky.
Wake Forest closes its season with a 14-11 overall record and a 5-5 mark in the ACC.
