Wake Forest senior women's golfer Ashley Hoagland was named first team All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association (GCAA).
Hoagland becomes the ninth player in Wake Forest women's golf history to earn All-American status. She is one of 12 players on the GCAA first team, joining three other ACC players, Anna Grzebien, Elizabeth Janangelo and Brittany Lang, all of Duke. Louise Stahle of Arizona State was named the national player of the year.
Hoagland, a native of Palmetto, Fla., earned All-ACC honors in 2004 and again in 2005 and she will represent the USA in July in the Japan Collegiate Championship. She finished in the top-10 in six tournaments this year, ending the season with a 73.54 stroke average, the lowest season mark by any Deacon in the history of the women's golf program. She finished her four-year career with a 74.92 average, also the lowest in the record books. Hoagland's success was not limited to the golf course. She was a recipient of the ACC Post graduate scholarship, she earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall semester and she was named the Wake Forest 2005 Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Note: Every member of the Wake Forest Women's Golf Team earned Dean's List status in the spring semester!
