
Coetzee, Davis Selected to Participate in NCAA Singles Championship

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior Karin Coetzee and sophomore Ashlee Davis both received at-large bids to the 2005 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championship for the South Region, the NCAA selection committee announced Thursday. Coetzee and redshirt freshman Alex Hirsch also received an at-large bid for the doubles championship.
Currently ranked #28, Coetzee will make her second appearance in singles after advancing to the second round in 2004. Entering the tournament with a 22-10 overall record, Coetzee has compiled an 8-5 mark in the No. 1 position, while adding a 7-3 mark in the ACC.
Davis, who will make her first appearance in the singles championship, enters the tournament with an 18-15 overall mark and a #57 national ranking. Named to the All-ACC team, Davis finished the conference season with a 4-6 ACC record.
Teaming up together for the majority of the spring season, Coetzee and Hirsch will look to improve upon their 12-3 overall record as a pair. Nationally-ranked through the majority of the spring, the tandem currently sits at #15.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., following the conclusion of the team championship (May 19-22). The University of Georgia will serve as host.
All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
