Men's Golf Misses Fourth Round Cut by One Stroke

OWINGS MILL, Md. -- - The Wake Forest men's golf team missed the cut for the fourth and final round of the 2005 NCAA Championships by one stroke, shooting 24-over par on the third day of competition. The Demon Deacons close the tournament in 16th place, the highest team finish since 2003.
"We showed that we were one of the best teams in the country," said Head Coach Jerry Haas. "We need to get better in handling certain situations. You can't take a time-out in golf and each player needs to work on that aspect of the game. We came off a nice regional and it was done by a young team of competitors. We will use this tournament as a motivation next year."
Wind and steady rain throughout the day hampered the competition, but junior Sean Moore was able to finish the tournament with a team-best 3-over par. On the week, Moore finished at 217 (7-over par), putting him in a tie for 28th place. Moore will return to the greens for 36 holes on Monday for the US Open Sectional Qualifier in Columbus, Ohio.
Kyle Reifers followed Moore in the third round with a 74 (3-over) to close the tournament at 227. After two consecutive days at 1-over, junior Doug Manchester shot a 78 in the third round to finish the tournament at 10-over.
As a team, the Demon Deacons finished the competition at 44-over par for a total score of 884 (287-293-304).
