
Alex Hirsch Advances to Finals of Regional ITA Summer Circuit

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest women's tennis player Alex Hirsch advanced to the singles final of the Southeast ITA Summer Circuit at the UNC-Chapel Hill, while incoming freshman Sierra Poske reached the semi-finals. Christian Tara, another incoming freshman, reached the doubles final of the ITF Evansville 10K.
The ITA Collegiate Summer Circuit is made up of six regional sites for collegiate players. Each region consists of four consecutive tournament played during the month of July.
"Playing the ITA Summer Circuit and the ITF Women's Ccircuit Tournaments allows the players to compete against the best," said head coach Chad Skorupka. "These events get the athletes ready for fall competition."
Hirsch, a red-shirt sophomore, earned a bye in the rounds of 64 and 32 before defeating Merry Ellen Henry of Ole Miss in the round of 16 ( 6-0, 6-3). In the next two matches, she defeated Lisa Suggs of UNC-Greensboro, 7-5, 6-3, and Meg Fanjoy of North Carolina, 7-5, 6-2, respectively. In the final round, Hirsch fell to Austin Smith, 6-3, 6-1, 1-0 (10).
Poske, who will enter Wake Forest in the fall, was leading Hanes Harris, 6-3, 2-0, before the match was retired due to an injury. Moving onto the quarterfinals, Poske defeated Elizabeth Googe, 6-1, 6-2 before falling in the semifinals to Smith, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0(2).
Tara, another incoming freshman, advanced to the finals of the ITF Evansville 10K, defeating Ryan/Ryan of the US and Horikawa/Sugano of Japan, respectively. In the finals, Tara and her partner fell to Prakusya/Tedjakusuma, 6-0, 6-1.
