Winston-Salem, NC - David Loewenthal, one of the most decorated tennis players in Wake Forest history, has joined the men's tennis staff as a volunteer assistant, head coach Jeff Zinn announced on Sunday.
Loewenthal will assist in the areas of practice and the day-to-day operations of the tennis program.
A native of Franklin Lakes, N.J., Loewenthal graduated from Wake Forest in 2004 and is currently playing on the professional circuit. He has competed recently in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Israel, Mexico, Venezuela, Peoria, Ill., and Binghamton, N.Y.
"I'm thrilled to come back and be a part of the Wake Forest family again," Loewenthal proclaimed. "Coach Zinn and Coach Simpson run a great program here, and I feel privileged to use my experience to help assist the team when I'm not out playing on the tour."
"It's great to add a person of David's caliber to our staff, not only as a player, but as a person," Zinn said. "As a Demon Deacon, David was a tough competitor. As he competes on the professional tour, I believe his work ethic will be a great example to our current student-athletes."
At Wake Forest, Loewenthal was a two-time All-ACC selection and a two-time participant in the NCAA singles tournament. He finished his Deacon career with 101 singles victories, the second-most of any player in Wake Forest history. His 71 career doubles victories rank fourth. He was a nationally-ranked player, reaching as high as 24th in singles and 23rd in doubles.
