Box Score

Winston-Salem, N.C. - Junior Kristi Harshman scored two and six others added goals of their own as the No. 1 Wake Forest field hockey team rolled past Appalachian State, 8-1, Thursday night in Kentner Stadium. The win improves the Demon Deacons to 8-0 on the season and increases their non-conference winning streak to 58.

Freshman Michelle Kasold led the charge with eight of the Deacs 44 shots, while Lauren Crandall was not far behind with five. Christine Suggs, Chelsea Cipriani, Tracey Scott and Minou Gimbrere all had four shots.

Kasold opened things up quickly for Wake Forest scoring her second career goal off a rebounded shot in the fourth minute. After that, Wake dominated taking 15 shots in the next 15 minutes. Finally connecting at the 22:42 mark, Harshman scored a pair less than three minutes apart. Her first goal was from the field and came off a cross from Gimbrere. Then, at the 24:47 mark, the Deacs received a penalty corner and Harshman tipped the ball in off a pass from Crandall.

Opening the second half of play Wake increased their lead with two goals within 15 seconds. Tracey Scott scored the fourth goal of the game with the assist coming from her twin sister, Haley Scott at 37:03. Lauren Love then scored one unassisted at 37:12 for her first collegiate goal.

Losing control of the game for just a moment, the Deacs gave up a penalty corner in the 47th minute and Appalachian State was able to put the ball in off a shot from Erica Muschamp. Regrouping quickly, Ariel Meyers received a pass from Maeke Boreel and injected the ball into the back of the cage two minutes later.

Wake Forest scored two more goals in the remaining minutes to close the game. Cipriani put it at the 52 minute mark, while freshman Katy Narron scored her first collegiate goal with 45 seconds remaining.

The Demon Deacons will next face No. 3 North Carolina, Saturday afternoon in Kentner Stadium. Game time against the Tar Heels is set for 1 p.m.
