Wake Forest Volleyball Blanks Tennessee State, 3-0

Louisville, Ky. -- - The Wake Forest volleyball team defeated Tennessee State, 3-0 (30-27, 30-26, 30-22) for the Demon Deacons first win under head coach Heather Kahl, Saturday morning at the Courtyard by Marriott Airport Classic.
"We started out a bit sluggish, but I think we improved through out the match," said Kahl. "We worked on our ball control and we put emphasis on our block. Overall, I have a good feeling about this morning and I believe we have the momentum to carry us into our match tonight against Ohio."
Wake Forest had three players with four block assists on the day, en route to 16 total. On the attacking side, sophomore Jackie Lucas hit .362 off six kills with just two errors, while Michael Faulkner had the team-high eight kills. Defensively, Natasha Schaefer and Erin Borhart each had added eight digs. In addition, Borhart finished the match with 26 assists.
In the first game, the two teams battled back and forth until a 6-1 run eight all pushed Wake Forest ahead. The Tigers fought back, bringing the game within one point at 27-26, but Wake Forest pulled the game out with a 4-1 run.
In the second game the Deacs jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead and held onto it for the remainder of the game. Tennessee State attempted a comeback at 23-18 with a 7-1 run, but Wake finished it off, 30-26.
Tennessee State took the lead early in the final game, but the Deacs were able to tie the score at six all and then capture control with a 12-4 run. Holding onto the lead, Wake didn't look back and closed the match, 30-22.
Wake Forest will play one final game against Ohio, tonight at 5 p.m.
