Women's Cross Country Places Fourth, Men's 17th

South Bend, Ind. - The No. 12 Wake Forest women's cross country team finished the 5k race fourth out of 24 teams at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday. The men's team also competed and placed 17th of 25 teams in the five mile race.
Senior Annie Bersagel led the Deacons with a sixth place showing with a time of 17:06. Freshman Mandy McBean ran a time of 17:42, good for 32nd place. Senior Hanna Bremler and freshman Nicole Schappert placed 36th and 37th respectively for the Deacs. Bremler completed the race with a time of 17:44, and Schappert ran a time of 17:45. Junior Michelle Sikes ran a time of 17:48, good for 44th, and senior Erin Franklin placed 46th with a time of 17:48. Senior Molly Nunn finished with a time of 18:42 and sophomore Meredith Placer ran a time of 19:25 to round out the Deacs.
Michigan captured the team title with 77 points. Illinois placed second with 82, followed by Notre Dame with 91. The Deacs placed fourth with 151. Arkansas rounded out the top five with 205 points.
On the men's side, senior Sean Stevens paced the Deacons with a 47th place showing with a time of 24:49. Senior Brandon Bartholomew placed 88th with a time of 25:24. Freshman Jeremy Fisico completed the race in 25:26, good for 90th. Senior Brad Wharton ran a time of 25:30 good for 93rd. Junior Joel Conn ran a time of 25:44, and senior Shane Ahlers ran the five miles in 25:51. Freshman Mark Russell finished with a time of 25:54 followed by sophomore John Compton with a time of 26:00. Junior Chris Catton rounded out the Deacs with a time of 26:09.
Arizona took the men's team title with 70 points. Notre Dame finished second with 104, followed by Florida with 121 and Florida State with 159 points. Wisconsin rounded out the top five with 174 points.
