Men's Tennis Knocks Off #51 Northwestern, 5-2

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The 15th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team was tested by 51th-ranked Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center, but the Demon Deacons prevailed with a 5-2 victory.
The Deacons (3-0) captured the doubles point by earning victories at the number one and two positions. Wake Forest's top doubles team of Andrew Hamar and Todd Paul and the number two duo, Mariusz Adamski and Brett Ross, combined to go 6-0 in doubles action this weekend.
In the singles portion of the match, Wake Forest clinched the win by picking up victories at numbers three, four, five and six. Adamski and Joe Bates both recorded straight set victories. Ross and Cory Parr were pushed to three sets, but pulled out wins.
Northwestern (3-4) picked up victories at the top of the lineup as unranked Christian Tempke edged 11th-ranked Todd Paul in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. For Paul, it was his first regular season dual match loss since last March, a streak of seven straight matches. For Tempke, it was his second banner victory of the weekend. On Friday, he defeated fifth-ranked Raian Luchici of North Carolina, also in three sets.
At number two singles, Northwestern's Willy Lock upset 35th-ranked Andrew Hamar in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
For the weekend, Adamski, Parr and Ross were a perfect 3-0 in singles.
Wake Forest finishes its season-opening homestand with a 3-0 mark. The Deacons hit the road for their next five matches, beginning with William & Mary next Saturday.
