Ashlee Davis Advances To Quarterfinals of ITA Southeast Regional Indoor Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Senior Ashlee Davis advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles and doubles draws this past weekend at the ITA Southeast Regional Indoor Championships, hosted by North Carolina.
Davis, currently ranked No. 78 by the ITA, advanced through the singles bracket with victories over Olya Batsula of ETSU, Melissa Martin of Duke, and Catherine Newman of Vanderbilt. In the quarterfinals, Davis faced Anastasia Zhukova of Tennessee-Chattanooga and fell, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles, Davis paired up with freshman Sasha Kulikova and the duo advanced to the quarterfinals with victories over teams from Charleston Southern, Tennessee-Chattanooga and Vanderbilt. In the match against Lindsey Ballard and Zhukova of UTC, Kulikova and Davis blanked their opponents, 8-0.
Kulikova also participated in the singles portion of the tournament and fell in the round of 64 to Amanda Taylor of Vanderbilt, 6-2, 6-3.
Sophomore Christian Tara advanced to the round of 16 in the singles tournament with victories over Patricia Coirriba of Winthrop and Amanda Fish of Vanderbilt. Fish is currently ranked No. 17 by the ITA and was the No. 1 seed entering the tournament this weekend. In doubles, Tara paired up with sophomore Ana Jerman and advanced to the quarterfinals with victories over teams from North Carolina and MTSU.
Jerman also participated in the singles tournament and fell to Jessi Robinson of Duke in the round of 64.
Junior Alex Hirsch, who advanced to the finals of the ITA/All-American Qualifying consolation rounds last week in California, fell in the round of 32 after defeating Teresa Wang of Davidson, 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, Hirsch paired up with sophomore Sierra Poske and fell in the round of 32 after receiving a bye in the round of 64.
In singles, Poske advanced to the round of 32 with a victory over Samantha Orlin of Tennessee, 7-6(3), 6-3, but retired in the next match due to an injury.
The Demon Deacons will play in one final tournament, the Wake Forest Invitational, from Nov. 3-5.
