Demon Deacons to Play Washington State in WSF Tournament

Wake Forest vs. Washington State
The Demon Deacons wrap up their time in Lexington, Ky. with a consolation game matchup against Washington State on Sunday at 11 a.m. The Deacs and the Cougars each fell in their season-openers Friday evening in the first round of the Women's Sports Foundation Tournament. Wake lost 75-53 to Indiana, while WSU fell 80-51 to host Kentucky.
WSF Tournament
The Women's Sports Foundation Classic features teams from four of the top conferences in the nation: Wake Forest in the ACC, Indiana in the Big Ten, Washington State in the Pac-10 and tournament host Kentucky in the SEC. Kentucky and Indiana will play for the tournament championship Sunday afternoon. Wake Forest and Washington State will battle it out for third place on Sunday morning. The Women's Sports Foundation Tournament is in its fifth year after being founded by Billie Jean King. Last season Temple won the tournament, defeating Michigan in Eugene, Ore.
Last Time Out
The Demon Deacons are coming off a season-opening 75-53 loss to Indiana on Friday. After getting out to a 13-2 lead, Wake Forest was unable to solve IU's 2-3 zone defense. The Deacs committed 25 turnovers and shot just 29.0 percent (18-of-62) from the floor. Sophomore Corinne Groves had a standout game with 19 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Groves also tied her career-best with nine field goals made.
Sophomore Yolanda Lavender and junior Melissa Washington scored 13 and 12 points respectively. Sophomore Alex Tchangoue pulled down 12 boards, while freshman Courteney Morris had four assists and three steals.
Next Up...
Wake Forest will play its home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 14, against Western Carolina at Joel Coliseum. The Demon Deacons will also face Triad-rival High Point on Friday, Nov. 17, at home. The Deac are at home for six straight contests and nine of their next 10 games. Wake's only road game until the New Year is a Dec. 14 matchup at Wright State.
