Wake Forest will get its final tune-up before kicking off the 2006-07 basketball season Tuesday night against Division II North Carolina Central in an exhibition game at Lawrence Joel Coliseum (7 p.m./no TV).
Tuesday's game will be the first and only legitimate exhibition game for the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest played its annual Black/Gold intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday and previously played UNC-Greensboro in a closed practice/scrimmage.
North Carolina Central will play its third of three November exhibition games. The Eagles lost at Duke, 93-62, on Saturday. Last Thursday NCCU fell at Mountain State in West Virginia, 85-70.
Despite the 31-point loss at Duke, Central held its own against the Blue Devils. The Eagles shot a higher field goal percentage (47.2 percent) but were whistled for 31 fouls and committed 27 turnovers at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Senior forward Drew Johnson led Central with 21 points.
Central will open its regular season Nov. 17-18 when it hosts a four-team, two-day tournament in Durham. The Eagles return one starter from a team that went 10-18 last year.
Wake Forest, 17-17 a year ago, has a roster that includes 14 freshmen and sophomores (including three non-scholarship players).
The Deacons will kick off the 2006-07 regular season Saturday afternoon at Lawrence Joel Coliseum against James Madison (2 p.m./no TV).
