TRACK AND FIELD WRAPS UP VT CHALLENGE

*Blacksburg**, Va. - *The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the Virginia Tech Challenge on Saturday afternoon. Four Demon Deacons broke school records, while several more set personal bests.
Freshman Brent LaRue broke the school record in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:03.87. LaRue placed first in the race and broke the record which was previously held by current Deacon Eric Seely who ran a time of 1:04.74 last year.
Sophomore Melissa Council broke the school record in the women's 300 meter dash with a time of 39.31 seconds. Council placed third overall in the event.
Sophomore Molly Kennedy also set a school record in the triple jump. Kennedy jumped a distance of 11.07m (36-04.00) to break Kristin Rumpf's 1989 mark of 10.62 meters.
Senior Lindsay Neuberger once again set a new school record in the shot put with a toss of 15.85m (52-00.00). Neuberger broke her previous record which she set last week.
Freshman Phillip Warsaw set a personal best in the 500 meter dash running a time of 1:05.47. Warsaw placed ninth in the event. Junior Chris Catton also competed in the 500 meter dash placing one spot behind Warsaw and running a personal best time of 1:05.96. Senior Westin Galloway was the third Deacon to set a personal best in the 500 running a time of 1:07.03, placing him 15^th .
Sophomore Michael Bingham set a season best mark in the triple jump with a distance of 14.52m (47-07.75).
Sophomore Lauren Henn ran a personal record best in the 300 meter dash. Henn ran a time of 42.60 placing in 19^th .
Two Deacons set personal bests in the women's 500 meter dash. Sophomore Michelle Duffey placed fourth with a time of 1:16.51, and freshman Jamie Sobolewski placed 13^th with a time of 1:22.14.
In the men's weight throw, senior Adam Gabrault set a season best with a toss of 16.74m (54-11.25). He placed 12^th overall in the event.
Junior Catherine Muehleib set a personal record in the shot put with a distance of 13.25m (43-05.75). Muehleib placed 12^th in the event.
Bingham, senior Mike Loyd and freshman Kerry Major all ran season bests in the 200 meter dash. Bingham placed fourth with a time of 21.53, Loyd fifth with 21.62 and Major 10^th with 21.96. Major also set a season best in the long jump with a distance of 7.16m (23-06.00).
In the women's 400 meter dash, Duffey and freshman Brittany White both set personal records. Duffey placed 19^th with a time of 58.81 and White finished 30^th with a time of 1:02.06.
Merry Placer set a new personal best in the women's 800 meter run by over two seconds with her time of 2:18.23. Senior Ariel Meyers, a walk-on from the field hockey team, also competed in the 800 meter run as her first collegiate race. Meyers placed 23^rd with a time of 2:24.10.
In the men's mile, junior Ottie Kerley set a personal best by over eight seconds with his time of 4:23.08.
Sophomore Caitlin Chrisman in her second race back after being injured had a solid race in the 3000 meter run. Chrisman placed fourth with a time of 10:05.29.
Senior Sean Stevens tied a lifetime best in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:19.98. He placed fourth in the event.
Wake Forest will next compete at the ACC Indoor Championships next weekend in Blacksburg.
