Deacons Earn Upper-Division Finish In Spring Season Opener

GAINESVILLE, FL - Wake Forest finished sixth out of 14 teams and senior Kyle Reifers took fifth place overall in the Deacons' first men's golf tournament of the spring here Sunday.

The 11^th-ranked Demon Deacons shot a cumulative 16-over in Sunday's final round to secure sixth place at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. For the 54-hole tournament, Wake Forest finished with an 887 (47-over), six strokes behind fifth-place LSU.

Florida, playing on its home course - the par 70, 6,701-yard University of Florida Golf Course -- finished with an 855 to hold off Tulsa for the team title. Florida State finished in third and Georgia Sate took fourth place.

Reifers earned his 14^th career top-10 finish by taking fifth place. He shot a final round 73 today to finish with a 4-over 214 for the tournament. Reifers finished four strokes out of first place, which was shared by Tulsa's Sam Korbe and Florida's Brett Stegmaier. Korbe won a playoff to take individual honors.

Deacon sophomore Webb Simpson earned his 10^th career top-20 finish by taking 16^th place. He finished 8-over with a 54-hole total of 218.

Junior Sean Moore finished tied for 42^nd place with a 17-over 227. Senior Doug Manchester tied for 60^th place after shooting a 21-over 231. Sophomore Chad Wilcox tied for 69^th place after a 23-over 233.

Wake Forest returns to action Feb. 27-28 at the Lexus Naples Intercollegiate in Naples, FL.
