Men's Tennis Drops Match to South Carolina, 4-3

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The 13th -ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team was knocked off by No. 31 South Carolina on Tuesday by a score of 4-3. The Deacons with the loss fall to 6-3 on the season, while the Gamecocks improve to 7-5.
South Carolina took the early lead in the match by capturing the doubles point. At the number one doubles, Todd Paul and Andrew Hamar lost to Geraldo Knorr and Yevgeny Supeko 7-9. South Carolina's number two doubles tandem of Tom Eklund and Jaime Cuellar knocked off Marius Adamski and Cory Parr, 8-2. The third Deacon doubles team of Brett Ross and Charles Sartor beat the Gamecock team of Thomas Stoddard and Joseph Veeder, 8-4.
Wake Forest was led in the singles by 15th-ranked Paul who knocked off Eklund in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Cuellar knocked off Hamar, the 64th-ranked individual in the nation, in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 4-6. At the three position, Supeko defeated Adamski 6-3, 6-1.
Freshman Cory Parr gave the Deacons a point with his three-set victory over Knorr 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Ross also added a point for the Deacs by defeating Stoddard in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Senior Liron Strauss dropped a heartbreaking match against Adam Adler. The match lasted over three and a half hours before Strauss fell 5-7, 6-4, 7-6. Adler took the match in a 7-4 tiebreaker.
Wake Forest will next travel to Malibu, Calif. to take on Pepperdine on Wednesday, March 8. The next home match will be Tuesday, March 14 against NC State.
