Browns Summit, N.C. - The Wake Forest and UNC Greensboro women's golf teams host the ninth annual Bryan National Collegiate this weekend. The 54-hole event will be contested at Bryan Park Champions Course, just outside Greensboro, N.C. The Champions Course is par 72 and yardage is 6,210 yards. Livescoring will be available at www.golfstat.com and results will be posted daily at WakeForestSports.com. Tee times begin Friday morning at 8:30 am.
This year's field consists of 10 teams ranked in Golf Week's top 20 including top-ranked Duke. Also competing in this year's event is No. 6 Georgia, No. 8 Purdue, No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 12 California, No. 13 Tennessee, No. 14 Vanderbilt, No. 16 Florida, No. 17 Virginia, No. 20 Oklahoma State, North Carolina, LSU, South Carolina, NC State, Furman, UNC Wilmington, College of Charleston and UNC Greensboro.
Five-time defending champion Duke looks to continue its impressive run at the Bryan. Last year, the Blue Devils beat Tennessee by 10 shots en route to capturing the team title. Sophomore Brittany Lang took home the individual title with an even par score of 216.
Last year, the Deacons struggled and finished in 12th place in the event, the first time they had ever finished lower than seventh at the Bryan. The Deacons have five top-four finishes in the event including a win in 2000. In 2003, Nuria Clau shared the individual title firing a two-under 142 in a snow-shortened event. Clau fired a school-record tying 67, five-under par, in the second round of the event.
The Bryan National Collegiate is also playing the unique role of preview. The 2006 NCAA Women's East Regional is also being contested at Bryan Park from May 11-13. Wake Forest will also be the host institution for the event.
The Demon Deacons will next travel to the ACC Championship, which will be contested at Pinehurst's No. 8 course in Pinehurst, N.C. The championship will be held April 14-16.
