Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman Allan Dykstra went 4-for-4 with two doubles and his ACC-leading 10th home run to lead the Demon Deacons past Virginia Tech, 12-1, in the series opener Friday afternoon at Hooks Stadium. Wake Forest improves to 21-7 overall and 6-4 in the ACC, while the Hokies drop to 10-15 and 1-9.

Dykstra, who tied a Wake Forest single-game record with three home runs against Davidson on Tuesday, ripped an RBI double in the first and followed with another double in the third. The first baseman singled in the fifth and the led off the seventh inning with a solo home run. Dykstra drove in two and scored three runs. In two games this week, he is batting .778 (7-for-9) with four home runs and nine RBI. Dykstra is slugging an absurd 2.333 with an on-base percentage of .818.

Not to be out done, junior All-American Matt Antonelli went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI. Antonelli, in the leadoff spot for the second straight game, added a double and solo home run. The third baseman's blast in the third inning was his eighth of the season and seventh to the opposite field. Freshman Evan Ocheltree also chipped in with a three-hit effort. The right fielder went 3-for-5 with a run scored and RBI.

Wake Forest pounded out 16 hits, including seven extra-base knocks. Freshman Dustin Hood and junior Brian Shust each added two hit games. Shust has recorded two hits in four of his last five games.

Freshman starting pitcher Brad Kledzik (4-2) picked up the victory for the Deacons. The right-handed hurler tossed 6.0 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits. Kledzik did struggle with his control at times, walking four, but he punched out a career-high tying seven. He lowered his ERA to a paltry 2.43. Since moving into the weekend rotation, Kledzik is 2-2 in four starts with a 1.88 ERA in 24.0 innings of work.

Greg Fryman (2-3) was charged with the loss for Virginia Tech. The righty gave up five earned runs on 12 hits over 6.1 innings. He walked one and struck out one. Jose Cueto was the only Hokie with more than a hit. Cueto went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Wake Forest returns to action tomorrow afternoon with the second game of the three-game series. Sophomore Eric Niesen will get the start for the Deacons. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
