Women's Golf Still Sixth at ACC Championship

Pinehurst, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team remained in sixth place out of nine teams at the ACC Championship. The Deacons shot a second round score of 14-over par, 302, and have a two-day total of 616, 40-over par. The 54-hole championship is being contested at Pinehurst No. 8. Duke held onto the team lead with a 36-hole total of 591. Virginia is second at 32-over par 608, Florida State is third one stroke back, Maryland is fourth with a 36-over par 612 and NC State rounds out the top five with a 38-over par 614.
Junior Maggie Simons led the way Saturday firing an even par round of 72. Simons recorded just one of three rounds of even par or better. She has a two-day total of 156, 12-over par, and is in a tie for 22nd. Junior Mandy Goins added a two-over par 74 for the Deacons and is in a tie for 13th at nine-over par, 153.
Freshman Jean Chua also is in a tie for 13th at nine over par after a second round 78, six-over par. Freshman Nannette Hill also posted a six-over 78 for the Deacons. Hill's two-day total of 158, 14-over par, is good for a tie for 30th. Sophomore Laura Crawford added an 85 for the Deacons and has a 36-hole total of 165.
Duke freshman Amanda Blumenherst holds the 36-hole lead, firing the only sub-par round of the day, one-under par 71. Blumenherst has a four-under total of 140 and enters the final round with an eight shot lead.
