- Rising sophomore Cory Parr is making a splash at the USTA Boys 18s Nationals in Kalamazoo, Mich. He and doubles partner Steven Forman have knocked off three seeded opponents, five overall, to reach the semifinals. Parr and Forman face the top-seeded team of Alexander Clayton and Donald Young in Thursday's semifinal.
- Last weekend in Tuxtla Guttierrez, Mexico, former Deacon Brett Ross reached the singles final of the 2006 Copa Chiapas. In the first round, Ross upset second-seeded Daniel Garza in three sets. Garza is ranked 406th in the world. Ross then defeated former Virginia star and current his doubles partner, Darrin Cohen, in straight sets. The native of Roswell, Ga., eventually lost in the final to Miguel Gallardo who was once ranked as high as 189th in the world.
- Joe Bates, who also finished his collegiate career this spring, used home court advantage to win a wild card at the Kenosha, Wisconsin, futures event this week. Despite 100 degree heat, the Wisconsin native won five matches in three days at the event hosted by Carthage College. One of Bates' wins came against former Tar Heel Brad Pomeroy who played number two singles for North Carolina this spring. In the main draw of the event, Bates went the distance with former Florida State Seminole and 2004 ACC Player of the Year Mat Cloer, but lost in three sets.
- Senior-to-be Andrew Hamar celebrated his 22nd birthday on Wednesday.
