WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete at the 2007 ACC Championships on Saturday morning in Charlottesville, Va.

The men's 8k race kicks off the Championships at 10 a.m., while the women's 6k race follows at 11 a.m. The meet will be held at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, which is just north of Charlottesville.

For the women, Jessica Barton, Cate Berenato, Chelsea Bolton, Marley Burns, Caitlin Chrisman, Whitney Curry, Merry Place and Nicole Schappert will compete for the Deacons.

Wake Forest is coming off a fifth-place showing at the Penn State National Invite on Oct. 12. Schappert and Chrisman finished 1-2 for the Deacons for the third time on the season. Schappert placed 14th individually, while Chrisman was 16th.

Schappert has been Wake's top runner this season, leading the Deacs in three of the four races she has competed in. Chrisman was Wake Forest's top placer at the Boston College Invitational and has been second on the team at three other meets.

The Deacons finished eighth at the 2006 ACC Championships. It was the first time in five seasons that Wake Forest did not place in the top four. Chrisman and Schappert were second and third on the team respectively. Chrisman finished 31st overall, while Schappert was 41st.

The Deacon women won their only ACC Championship in 2002. Wake, however, has been runner-up on six occasions. Wake Forest has had at least one women's All-ACC honoree each of the past five seasons.

On the men's side, Greg Billington, Chris Catton, John Compton, Marcus Dillon, Jeremy Fisico, Keaton Morgan, Matt Owen and Patrick Russell will run for the Deacons.

Wake Forest is coming off a 10th-place showing at the Penn State National Invite on Oct. 12. Billington led the Deacs with a 10th-place individual finish.

Dillon, Fisico and Morgan have also led Wake Forest in races this season. Dillon was the top Deacon in the first two meets of the season, the Wake Forest Relays and the Lou Onesty Invitational. Fisico led Wake at the Greater Louisville Classic, while Morgan was the first Deacon across the line at the Raleigh Invitational.

At last season's ACC Championships, Wake Forest finished ninth as a team. Compton and Catton were the Deacons' top two runners, as they placed 28th and 43rd respectively. Dillon also competed for Wake Forest, finishing 63rd overall and sixth on the team.

The Deacon men have won four ACC Championships in program history--1989, 1990, 1993 and 1994. Wake Forest's last men's All-ACC honoree was Sean Stevens in 2005.

Following the ACC Championships, Wake Forest will run at the Southeast Regionals on Nov. 10 in Louisville, Ky.
