Deacons Give Fans Sneak Peek in Annual Black/Gold Game

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Led by L.D. Williams' 18 points, Wake Forest had four players score in double figures in the Demon Deacons' annual Black/Gold Game Saturday evening at Reynolds Gymnasium.
In front of a standing-room only crowd, the Deacons played two 15-minute periods, mixing up the teams in the intrasquad scrimmage in between.
Williams led Wake Forest on the day, finishing with a total of 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting. The sophomore went 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Freshman James Johnson, junior Harvey Hale and sophomore Jamie Skeen also scored in double figures. Johnson turned in 16 points, going 7-of-15 from the floor, and also added a pair of blocks.
Hale was right behind with 15 points, making three of his six three-point attempts.
Skeen went 6-for-11 from the field to score 14 points. He also had a team-high nine rebounds on the day.
Senior Cameron Stanley finished with seven rebounds, while Hale had six. Stanley also added nine points.
Sophomore point guard Ishmael Smith dished out a team-high six assists, while junior Bobby Hoekstra had four. Freshman Jeff Teague finished the day with two assists.
Fellow freshman Gary Clark poured in nine points, and Smith had eight.
Sophomore centers Chas McFarland and David Weaver posted six and four points respectively. Weaver also chipped in a pair of blocks.
In the first half, the Gold squad defeated the Black 33-23. The Gold was led by Williams' nine points. Williams went 3-for-4 from three-point range in the half.
Skeen had a team-high six rebounds for Gold, while Smith dished out five assists. Johnson and Hale each had seven points. Johnson went 3-for-5 from the floor.
Junior Mike Lepore made a three-pointer for his only bucket of the day.
Gold went 13-for-26 from the floor, including a 6-for-14 mark from beyond the arc, in the first half.
For the Black team, McFarland and Teague led the squad with five points each. Stanley had four boards, and Hoekstra dished out two assists.
Black was 9-for-23 from the field and 2-for-5 from three-point range in the first half.
In the second half, Gold edged out Black 35-30. Teague led Gold with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
Johnson and Williams each poured in nine points apiece for Gold, while Smith had five. Teague and Williams tied for the Gold lead in rebounds with three each.
As a team, Gold shot 14-of-26 and was 4-of-10 from three-point range in the second half.
On the Black side, Skeen scored 10 points, and Hale followed with eight. Hoekstra had a team-best four rebounds and two assists. Stanley also dished out two assists.
Black went 11-for-26 from the floor, including 4-for-9 from three-point range, in the second half.
Wake Forest will play it only other scrimmage of the preseason on Monday, Nov. 5, against Mars Hill. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Joel Coliseum.
