WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Brooke Thomas (Orlando, Fla.), Margaret Harvey (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Secily Ray (Thomasville, N.C.) have signed national letters of intent to play with the Wake Forest women's basketball team next fall.
"We are very happy with this recruiting class as a whole," Wake Forest head coach Mike Petersen said. "Secily, Margaret and Brooke are all gifted student-athletes who should have outstanding careers at Wake Forest."
Margaret Harvey is a 5-9 guard that has flourished at Forsyth Country Day School in Winston-Salem where she was the second leading scorer last season in the NCISAA Piedmont League. In AAU ball Harvey was named a top power forward in the U16s by hoopsanddreams.org, playing with the Lady Phoenix. Super Scout Women's Basketball report tabbed Harvey a No. 1 recruit in a recent report. Harvey will reunite with a former teammate, current junior starter Alex Tchangoue.
"Margaret is a great shooter whose range extends well beyond the three-point line," Petersen said. "She has great basketball I.Q. and has a good feel for the game."
Current Deacon freshman Brittany Waters also has a former teammate in Wake's Class of 2012, Brooke Thomas, out of Orlando Fla. The 5-4 guard has earned All-District and All-State honors under the guidance of Edgewater head coach Malcolm Lewis and helped lead her AAU squad, the Orlando Comets Red, to the junior National Championship over the summer. Waters is rated 65th on the Blue Star Basketball report scouting service.
"Brooke has had a great career in AAU basketball and with her high school team," Petersen said. "She has tremendous straight line speed but she is also very skilled at distributing the ball."
Another North Carolina local, Secily Ray from Thomasville High School, rounds out the 2007-08 Deacon signees. The 5-11 guard was rated the 29th best wing/forward in the nation according the Girls All-Star Basketball Report and helped lead the Thomasville High Bulldogs to the 2006 State Championship. Harvey was named a Greensboro News and Record All-Area Honorable Mention and named All-Davidson County by The Dispatch.
"Secily is a great athlete who is very gifted in offensive play," Petersen said. "She finishes well in transition and is very hard to guard."
