Wake Wraps Up First Outdoor Meet of 2007

The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams were in Charlotte on Saturday for the final day of action from the 49er Classic hosted by UNC Charlotte. The day was highlighted by a victory in the shot put from senior Lindsay Neuberger.
Neuberger had a toss of 48 feet, two inches in the event for the win.
Staying in the field events, senior Catherine Muehleib placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 47.68. On the men's side, freshman Thomas Sensing had a toss of 149-7 to come in fifth.
In the javelin, senior Michael Hauck had a second place result with a toss of 175-9 while sophomore Carly Mauch placed fifth with a throw of 120-1.
Having qualified for the finals of the 400-meter dash on Friday, junior Melissa Council and senior Eric Seely placed well in the event on Saturday. Council ran a time of 57.17 to finish fifth while Seely came in seventh in a time of 49.00.
Two hurdlers on the women's team had strong results to open the outdoor season. Competing in the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Caroline Vaughn placed fourth in a time of 14.25. Fellow freshman Alexandra Gove finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.19).
Freshman Tyler Dodds ran a time of 21.82 in the 200-meter dash, good for fifth.
With one outdoor meet in the 2007 season under their belt, the Deacons will return home next weekend to host the Wake Forest Open. Action from Kentner Stadium gets underway on Thursday with the multi-events while the individual running and field events commence on Friday.
