Five Demon Deacons Inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Five Wake Forest student-athletes were recently inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), the national leadership honor society. Senior Lauren Crandall of field hockey, senior Louis Frazier of football, junior Charlie Mellies of baseball and junior Caitlin Chrisman and senior Michelle Sikes of the cross country and track and field teams were all chosen for the honor by their peers.
These student-athletes are recognized as being outstanding leaders of their respective sports, while maintaining a high scholastic average and are being recognized for their leadership both on and off the field.
Sikes, a Rhodes Scholar, is a three-time All-American, a five-time All-ACC selection and this year became the Atlantic Coast Conference indoor champion in the 5,000 meter run. Chrisman currently has the 42nd fastest time in the nation in the 5,000 heading into this weekend's conference championships.
Mellies made his return to the Wake Forest rotation after having Tommy John surgery last spring. One of the Demon Deacons' top pitchers at the time of his injury in 2006, Mellies had to sit out over a year recovering from the elbow surgery. Since his return, he has gone 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two starts this season.
Crandall, a three-time All-American, helped lead the Deacs to their third championship appearance in her four years. As a freshman and sophomore, Crandall was an integral part in leading the team to its second and third National title.
Frazier, a perennial member of the Dean's List, has already been accepted to the nationally-renowned Wake Forest University medical school. Frazier started all 14 games at offensive guard and saw action on 559 snaps, about 65 percent of all offensive plays and the fourth-most on the team in the 2006 season.
The Wake Forest Circle of ODK was formed in 1939 and from that year on, some of the most illustrious names in Wake Forest history signed their names into the book of membership: former presidents, provosts, deans, coaches and athletes.
