Gladson, Wadkins Earn First Career Top-20 Finishes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Wake Forest sophomore Marc Gladson and freshman Travis Wadkins, both getting a rare chance to display their skills this spring, turned in career-low scores and career-high finishes at the Belmont Intercollegiate here Monday and Tuesday.
Gladson shot a 54-hole total of 9-under 209 to finish in a tie for 12th place at the Old Natchez Country Club. Gladson recorded his first career top-20 finish and shaved eight shots off his career-low for 54 holes.
Wadkins showed remarkable consistency this week while compiling a three-day total of 3-under 210. Wadkins, who tied for 15th place, shot three consecutive rounds of 1-under par 70.
Also competing this week for Wake Forest was freshman walk-on Preston Yates, who finished tied for 37th place. After shooting back-to-back rounds of 73 on Monday, Yates fired a 1-under par 70 Tuesday to finish the tournament at 3-over 216.
Akron's Blake Sattler shot a three-day 200 (-13) to edge Austin Peay's Justin Metzger (-12) by one stroke for the overall individual title.
Wake Forest did not compete for the team championship this week. The Deacons return to team play April 7-9 at the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta, Ga.
