WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -

Wake Forest vs. Penn
The nationally-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team opens the 2007 NCAA Tennis Championships on Friday when it will face Pennsylvania in a noon first-round match in Williamsburg, Va. Host and 15th-seeded William and Mary host a four-team regional which also includes Richmond.

Wake Forest (14-7) earned an at-large bid for their fourth straight NCAA tournament appearance and its 13th tournament appearance in the last 14 years.

About Penn
Pennsylvania holds a 17-4 record and earned an automatic bid to the tournament after posting a 7-0 conference record to win the Ivy League. The Quakers are ranked 51st in the latest ITA rankings and have a doubles team ranked 59th. Last season at the tournament, Penn defeated Tennessee, but fell to Georgia Tech in the second round.

Series History
Friday's match will mark the first time the two programs meet.

Also on Friday
Also facing off in the first round on Friday will be host William and Mary (20-2) and Richmond (9-7) at 3 p.m. The Tribe won an automatic bid after winning the Colonial Athletic Association title, while Richmond defeated Temple to claim the Atlantic 10 conference for the automatic bid.

The winners of Friday's matches will meet in the second round on Saturday, May 12 at 1 p.m.
