Third Day at the Championships -
The third in a series of blogs written by senior Mandy Goins. Wake Forest is participating this week at the NCAA Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla. Twenty-four teams are competing for the top prize in collegiate golf. Goins gives a behind-the-scenes look at traveling with the Deacs.
We're back in Daytona!! Maggie and I just got back to our hotel room to find it all decorated with graduation streamers and confetti. Of course, we loved it, and Maggie especially liked her Nemo pinata! We're going to miss these girls!!
It's been a long day for us, but one that we will never forget. Graduation this morning was awesome and it was great to be able to make it there. We had about an 8 1/2 hour drive coming back, so we kept ourselves busy watching movies and playing 20 questions...anything to make the ride seem quicker (special thanks to my mom for driving us!).
The rest of the team had a good day as well. They got to sleep in a little this morning then went to the course to play nine holes and practice for awhile. They said the greens were rolling faster today, so it sounds like they are in perfect shape for the tournament tomorrow!
As it turns out, my prediction from the first day was partly correct - Nannette forgot her socks at the hotel this morning...at least she can buy a pair of those. After their practice, they came back to the hotel and spent some time at the beach before dinner and some relaxing back at the hotel. Everybody seems excited and ready to play tomorrow and it's always a good feeling to be able to play for a national championship! Round #1 tomorrow starting at 12:30 p.m. Check us out on golfstat.com!
Prediction: Mostly sunny with a 100% chance of birdies.
