Tournament Notes
- With the win UC Irvine advances to take on the Texas/Brown winner on Saturday at 6 p.m.
- Wake Forest moves to the loser's bracket and will take on the Texas/Brown loser on Saturday at 12 p.m.
- Today's game marked the first time that UC Irvine and Wake Forest have met.
- UC Irvine is making its third NCAA Division I postseason appearance.
- Wake Forest is making its 11th NCAA postseason appearance and its first since 2002.
- The attendance for the regional's first game between UC Irvine and Wake Forest was 3,724.

--Team Notes:
- Junior designated hitter Willy Fox was hit by a pitch in the top of the first inning, bringing the Demon Deacons' season total to 108 HBP's. Wake Forest's season HBP total ranks second in the country, four behind national leader, San Jose State.
- Demon Deacons' sophomore starter Garrett Bullock pitched five innings before giving way to freshman reliever Joel Ernst. The start marked Bullock's shortest outing since March 11 against Virginia. Bullock surrendered 11 hits in the contest, the most he has allowed since April 7 when he gave up 12 hits against Maryland.
--Individual Notes:
- With his leadoff single to right centerfield in the first inning, junior centerfielder Ben Terry improved his current hitting streak to seven games.
- Sophomore third baseman Tyler Smith's single in the top of the second inning extended his hitting streak to seven games, equaling his season-best streak.
UC Irvine (41-15-1):
--Team Notes:
- UC Irvine's victory over Wake Forest was its first NCAA Division I Regional victory, after combining to go 0-4 in the 2004 and 2006 Regionals.
- The Anteaters scored four runs in the first inning and are now 21-2-1 when scoring in the first. UCI also improves to 26-4-1 when scoring first.
- UCI's 13 runs against the Demon Deacons marked the Anteaters highest scoring output in NCAA Division I Regional history.
- With its 13-run effort, UC Irvine's offense has now registered double-figure run totals in 17 games this season.
--Individual Notes:
- With his leadoff single in the bottom of the first inning, junior first baseman Taylor Holiday improved his season-best hitting streak to 18 games. Holiday's hitting streak is the longest streak since the Anteaters reinstated baseball in 2002.
- Anteaters' junior starter Wes Etheridge tallied a season-high 10 strikeouts in eight innings of work against the Demon Deacons.
- Taylor Holiday's three hits against Wake Forest set a new UC Irvine NCAA Division I postseason record for most hits in a postseason game.
