SANFORD, N.C. - Maggie Simons picked up the title at the N.C. Women's Amateur Championship on Thursday at the Lake Course of the Carolina Trace Country Club. Simons, a recent Wake Forest golfer and graduate shot a final-round 72 for a three-day total of 218.
Simons finished five shots ahead of second-place finisher Katie Brenny, who also played golf for the Demon Deacons.
"I just tried to maintain a steady round. No one in my pairing was going low so I was a little worried about some of the other players. But I was able to keep it together and I am very happy to have won this championship again," said Simons.
Simons also won the title in 2005 when it was held at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.
