
Five Demon Deacons Named to All-Academic ACC Baseball Teams

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Five Demon Deacons were named to the All-Academic ACC Baseball Team, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Two-time honorees Andy Goff and Allan Dykstra headlined the list for Wake Forest. First-time honorees Nathan Frazier, Austin Jones and Ben Hunter rounded out the Deacon five, tying Wake for the second-most selections on the 2007 list.
Goff, a rising senior second baseman, was named to the 2006 All-Academic squad. In 2007, Goff played in 51 games and hit .274 with two home runs and 31 RBIs. A communication major, Goff also added 12 doubles and scored 32 runs on the year.
Dykstra, a rising junior first baseman, has been named to the All-Academic team for the second straight season. The San Diego native and business major is also a two-time All-ACC selection, earning second team in both 2006 and 2007.
This season, Dykstra was one of the most dangerous hitters in the conference, finishing with 18 home runs and 60 RBIs. The lefthanded-hitting Dykstra also hit .310, slugged .615 and reached base at a .479 clip. Dykstra started all 63 games for the Deacons, playing every out of the season at first base.
Frazier, a rising junior infielder, is making his first appearance on the All-Academic team. In 2007, Frazier played in 26 games and made 10 starts. The political science major hit .281 with three RBIs and five runs scored.
Jones, a rising senior catcher, is also a first-time honoree. Jones saw action in 48 games with 34 starts behind the plate for the Deacons in 2007. The mathematical business major hit .231 with three home runs and 17 RBIs.
Hunter, a rising senior starting pitcher, has been named to the All-Academic team for the first time in his career. Hunter emerged as one of Wake Forest's top starters in 2007, despite beginning the year as the team's closer. The biology major finished the season 8-6 with a 4.07 ERA. However, as a starter Hunter was 5-1 with a 2.52 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 50.0 innings pitched.
To be eligible for the All-Academic ACC teams, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Florida State led the conference with seven selections, while Wake Forest and Virginia Tech each had five players named to the team.
