Newcastle, Ireland- - Wake Forest senior golfer Webb Simpson helped contribute to the United States victory in the 41st Walker Cup that was held this weekend at Royal County Down Golf Club in Newcastle, N. Ireland.

The Walker Cup pits the top U.S. Amateur golfers with those from Great Britain and Ireland. The 12.5 to 11.5 victory by the U.S. marked the first win away from home for the U.S. team in 18 years.

Simpson played singles matches on each of the first two days of competition. He lost to David Horsey 1 up in each match

On the first day of competition in the morning foursomes, Simpson teamed with Jonathan Moore and the pair halved their match with GB&I's Jamie Moul and Daniel Willett. The highlight of the foursomes match was Simpson's 110-foot putt

The U.S. clinched the title on Sunday in the final singles match of the event when Moore eagled the 18th hole to secure the team victory.
