Wake Finishes Fall Opener

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team wrapped up the play at the St. Mary's Classic in Knoxville, Tennessee over the weekend.
Junior Sierra Poske and freshmen Katarina Reveche and Emilee Malvehy each posted two match wins in their flights. Poske had straight set wins over opponents from ETSU and Tennessee. Reveche defeated Lousville's Biana Gorbe 6-4, 7-3 and followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Julia Roach from NC State. Malvehy also notched an ACC win, defeating Sophia Grabinski of North Carolina 6-3, 6-1 in the consolation draw.
In Flight 2, Wake's Sasha Kulikova defeated MTSU's Stephanie Parkison 6-0, 6-2, but fell in the second round to Notre Dame's Colleen Rielley (6-0, 6-2). In the consolation round, Kulikova was edged in two tie-breakers by Tennessee's Caitlin Whorisky to narrowly miss a second flight win.
Alex Hirsch was the Wake representative in the top flight, defeating Purdue's Brooke Beier 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round. After taking the first set vs. NC State's Daria Petrovic, Hirsch dropped consecutive sets to enter the consolation round where she fell 6-1, 6-1 to Brooke Buck of Notre Dame.
Jenna Loeb opened Flight 7 with a win over MTSU's Shannon Hartman (6-2, 6-1) but Kali Krisik (Notre Dame) took a 6-1, 6-3 win from the Wake senior in the second round.
Next week the Deacons will continue fall play in Winston-Salem, as the team hosts the Deacon classic, featuring competition from Illinois, Indiana, Davidson, Georgia State, UNC-Charlotte, Richmond and Dartmouth. For more information on the tourney visit Deacon Classic Tournament Central.
