2008 ACC Championships - Women's Results
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Wake Forest took third at the ACC Championships hosted by North Carolina at the Ranson-Hamrick Cross Country Course. Allie Kieffer finished 11th overall en route to being named All-ACC, while Anna Nosenko placed 16th and earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors.
With a third-place team score, the 25th-ranked Deacon women tied their highest ACC finish since placing third in 2005.
"Allie Kieffer hadn't run all week because of an injury. However, she ran today through the pain and really showed her commitment to the team and the program, and that's what all of the team did," said head coach Annie Bennett. "I'm really proud of each one of our individuals.
"We had a couple of runners who went down near the beginning of the race but they got back up and finished. We did all we could do for today but we want to do more for regionals. We know it doesn't just come. You have to go earn it, and that's what we plan to do."
Kieffer was named All-ACC after finishing 11th with a time of 21:13.2 in the 6K event, becoming the first Deacon to do so since All-American Michelle Sikes' second-place finish in 2006. At the ACC Championships, the top 14 runners are named All-ACC.
Adding to the list of Wake Forest honors, A. Nosenko earned ACC Freshman of the Year honors. Her time of 21:22.8 was good for 16th overall and second on the team.
Dina Nosenko was the third Deacon to cross the finish line with a time of 21:29.6 and 22nd-place overall.
Marley Burns and Merry Placer rounded out the Deacon scoring. Burns finished 25th overall with a time of 21:32.9, while Placer recorded a time of 21:54.9 and placed 39th overall.
Cate Berenato, Suzie Clinchy, Caitlin Crawford and Laura Rapp completed the Deacon squad, placing 89th, 93rd, 94th and 100th overall, respectively.
Florida State won the meet with a total of 27 points. Susan Kuijken of Florida State claimed the individual title with a time of 20:11. Boston College placed second at the event, finishing only six points ahead of Wake Forest's total of 112.
The Deacons will host the Southeast Regionals on Nov. 15, at the first-ever NCAA event at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, N.C. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the women's race. Admission is free to the public.
