Women's Basketball Inks Five for 2009-10

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team has just signed five standout athletes that will join the team as freshmen in the 2009-10 season.
Lakeesa Daniel out of Roanoke Rapids, N.C. and Sandra Garcia from Hollywood, Fla. will be playing the post for the Demon Deacons. At 6-4, Daniel is the tallest of the 2008 signees, followed by Garcia who measures in at 6-3. Mykala Walker, a guard from Duluth, Ga., follows the recent trend of long and lean wing players that have joined the Demon Deacon squad, standing at 6-0.
Daniels is joined by two of her teammates from AAU's Garner Flames. Guards Asia Williams (Durham, N.C.) and Lakevia Boykin (Raleigh, N.C.) were also coached by Arne Morris on the Raleigh-based traveling team.
"I am very happy with both the quality and quantity of this recruiting class," Wake Forest head coach Mike Petersen said. "We feel like we've signed five talented student-athletes who will be able to make significant contributions to our program over the course of their four years at Wake Forest."

Boykin ranks 73rd on the 2008 All-Star Girls Report and Collegehoops.net's Top 100 Girl's prospects. Last season the point guard averaged 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists during her junior season at Southeast Raleigh. She was named a Player to Watch for 2008-09 in the Raleigh News and Observer's high school season preview. She became a 2008 Junior Girls All-American with the Garner Blue Flames (AAU).

Daniel is ranked 72nd in the country on ESPN's Hoopgurlz.com and 19th in the country by position. In 2008, Daniel was named to the Daily Herald's All-Area basketball team, averaging 16.5 points and 10.4 rebounds as a junior at Northwest Halifax High School. Daniel will play her senior season at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia where she recently posted a 10-foot-two-inch high-touch in a preseason media event.
Sandra Garcia
Hollywood, Fla.
Plantation American Heritage
6-3 - Forward
Garcia averaged 23 points and 13 rebounds her junior year at Plantation American Heritage, earning her second consecutive spot on the Miami Herald's All-Broward Class 1A-3A first team. Garcia played on the Colombian U18 National Team over the summer, becoming the tournament's MVP with an average of 30 points per game.

Walker is ranked 67th in Collegehoops.net's 2008-09 Top 100 High School Girl's Prospects. In 2008, the guard posted 22 points in the State Class AAAAA quarterfinals, helping send Duluth to the state semifinals for the first time in school history. For her standout efforts she was named a 2008 honorable mention the in the Georgia Sports Writers Association Awards.
Asia Williams

5-11 - Guard
Williams averaged 16.6 points per game at Hillside, helping the Hornets post an area-high average of 72.6 points per game. In 2008 she became a Junior Girls All-American with the Garner Blue Flames (AAU). She is ranked 98th on the 2008 All-Star girls report.
