Deacons Host Appalachian State in Home Baseball Opener

Wake Forest will host Appalachian State on Wednesday, February 27 at 2:30 p.m. at Hooks Stadium as the Deacons celebrate their home opener.
Wake Forest is 1-2 after a weekend trip to California. The Mountaineers enter Wednesday's game with a 2-2 record after opening the season last weekend with a three-game set at North Carolina State, winning the middle game. ASU downed North Carolina A&T 9-6 on Tuesday in Greensboro.
Wake Forest head coach Rick Rembielak will send junior righthander Matt Hammond to the mound vs. the Mountaineers. Hammond struck out two in one inning of work against Pepperdine on Sunday.
Appalachian State head coach Chris Pollard will counter with junior righty Aubrey Edens.
Wake Forest is led by junior first baseman Allan Dykstra who is hitting an even .500 after going five-for-10 against Pepperdine. Junior Weldon Woodall went four-for-six vs. the Waves and leads the Deacons with five RBI.
A pair of freshmen each contributed home runs for Wake Forest last weekend. Right fielder Steven Brooks and catcher Ian Tomkins each hit solo shots vs. Pepperdine.
