Final Stats

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team was nipped 66-46 by the Clemson Tigers on Sunday afternoon at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson, S.C.

WFU juniors Alex Tchangoue and Corinne Groves were the leading scorers in the contest, with 17 and 14 points, respectively. Clemson's Lele Hardy was the high-rebounder, with 10 grabs.

With WFU freshman Brittany Waters still undergoing observations for her collapse in last week's game against North Carolina, starting point guard Tiffany Roulhac out for the season with a concussion suffered during the Florida State game, and back-up point guard Camille Collier benched with a stress fracture, the Demon Deacons only had nine healthy athletes in Sunday's contest.

Wake Forest's starting lineup included junior Alex Tchangoue at point, with Courteney Morris at guard, forwards Christen Brown and Corinne Groves with Mekia Valentine at center.

Christen Brown opened the contest with a 3-point basket and the Deacons crept up to a 8-7 lead before Clemson pulled ahead with 14 minutes remaining in the fist half.

Led by sharp shooter Kirsten Wright, who added 12 points in the first half, all from beyond the arc, the Tigers posted a 23-10 lead with eight minutes in the half.

With just under seven minutes to play, WFU's Morris took off on a fast break, but collided with Clemson's Christy Brown at the baseline and had to sit out the remainder of the half. Freshman Kem Wilson stepped in to take the free throws, hitting one of two from the charity stripe to set the score at 26-11.

At the end of the first half the Deacons held onto the possession with four seconds to play, but Clemson's Sthefany Thomas swooped in to pick the pockets of Jessie Cain and sent the ball to a waiting Christy Brown who hit a buzzer-beater to set the score at 43-22 going into the locker room.

In the second half, the Tigers outscored the Deacons by just one point, adding 24 while Wake Forest added 23.

Next up for the Deacons will be a home contest against Virginia Tech on February 7. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
