WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman guard Jeff Teague has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season. Teague averaged 25.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in the Demon Deacons' two contests last week. Teague also went a perfect 14-for-14 from the free throw line on the week.
The Indianapolis native scored 25 points in each game. At Virginia Tech on Tuesday, Teague went 6-for-10 from the floor and was 10-for-10 from the free throw line. He also added four rebounds and a block. He played a season-high 38 minutes against the Hokies.
In Wake Forest's 78-67 defeat of NC State on Saturday, Teague again scored 25 points. He also pulled down a season-high seven rebounds to lead the Deacons. He went 9-for-17 from the floor, setting season-highs for both field goals and attempts. He was 3-for-4 from three-point range and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
On the week, Teague was 15-for-27 (55.6 percent) from the floor, 6-for-9 (66.7 percent) from three-point range and a perfect 14-for-14 on free throws. He had 11 rebounds.
On the season, Teague is second on the team with 13.8 points per game. He has scored 20+ points in each of his last three games.
Teague is one of four freshman in the ACC to win the conference's Rookie of the Week award multiple times this season. He and Duke's Kyle Singler each received the honor four times. NC State's J.J. Hickson (three times) and Virginia Tech's Jeff Allen (twice) also won the award multiple times.
Teague was previously named the ACC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 17, Feb. 4 and Feb. 18. He is the first Demon Deacon since Chris Paul (five times) in 2003-04 to win Rookie of the Week multiple times. Teague is one of seven Deacons all-time to win the award three or more times.
Paul and Rodney Rogers (1990-91) each were named ACC Rookie of the Week a program-best five times. Teague tied with Loren Woods (1996-97) and Robert O'Kelley (1997-98) for third-most in program history.
Teague is one of two Deacon freshmen--along with forward James Johnson--to win the award this year, making Wake Forest the only squad with multiple recipients. In program history, 33 Deacons have received the honor a total of 58 times.
Wake Forest finished the regular season 17-12 overall and 7-9 in the ACC. The Deacons earned the eighth seed for the ACC Tournament and will take on ninth-seeded Florida State on Thursday at noon.
