CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Wake Forest trailed No. 4-ranked Miami 9-1 before torrential downpours caused the third game of the weekend series to be cancelled. The game was called in the bottom of the fourth and therefore is not official. The statistics from the contest will not count either.
The Demon Deacons dropped the first two games of the weekend series to fall to 11-9 overall and 4-4 in the ACC.
Joey Terdoslavich and Yonder Alonso hit two home runs apiece to lead Miami in the rain-shortened affair. Miami was threatening a three-game sweep after taking game one of Sunday's doubleheader, 23-2.
For the first time in the series, Miami took the first the lead of the game when Alonso followed a Jemile Weeks single with a home run to right field off Deacon starter Charlie Mellies. Miami led 2-0 after the first inning.
Terdoslavich led off the bottom of the second with his first home run of the game to give the Hurricanes a 3-0 advantage. Following a single by Adan Severino, Jason Hagerty was hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Jackson, lead-off batter Blake Tekotte homered to left field, a three-run shot, to give the Canes a 6-0 lead.
Two batters later, Alonso connected for his second home run of the game, a solo shot that put the Canes up by seven runs.
The Deacs' lone run came on Andy Goff's home run over the left field fence off Miami starter Enrique Garcia. The shot would have been Goff's first of the season.
Wake Forest will return to action on Tuesday at home against UNC Asheville. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
