WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's tennis team didn't fair so well through the foul weekend weather, taking two losses on the road to No. 28 Clemson and No. 3 Georgia Tech.
The Demon Deacons (8-7, 4-2) dropped a 6-1 contest to Clemson (8-9, 4-3) on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Emilee Malvehy had the only singles win of the day, defeating #124 Federica van Adrichem 7-5, 6-4 for her first ranked victory of 2008.
Christian Tara and Ana Jerman posted an 8-6 doubles victory at No. 2, but earlier WFU losses at Nos. 1 and 3 had already given Clemson the doubles point.
On Sunday, the defending NCAA Champion Yellow Jackets opened the match by taking all three doubles wins. Wake Forest sophomore Sasha Kulikova took fourth-ranked Amanda McDowell to three sets in singles, but dropped a super tiebreaker decision to complete the Georgia Tech sweep.
Next week the Demon Deacons will hit the Tobacco Road trail, facing Duke in Durham on Thursday, April 3, followed by North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Saturday and NC State in Raleigh on Sunday.
