Wake Forest Goes Undefeated at Second Home Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest picked up three wins to go undefeated in its second home invitational of the spring on Saturday at Reynolds Gymnasium. The Demon Deacons earned victories against Duke, Furman and Virginia Tech.
Wake Forest opened the day with consecutive two-game sweeps of Virginia Tech and Furman. The Deacons then earned a three-game win against Duke, a 2007 NCAA Tournament participant.
Each match was played in a best two of three format, with the first two games to 25 and the third to 15.
Individually, Natalie Mullikin and Lauren McIntyre led the Wake attack. Mullikin averaged 3.14 kills per game, while McIntyre turned in 2.29 kills per game.
On the defensive side, Megan Thornberry finished with a team-best 5.43 digs per game. Sally Fischer was not far behind with 3.57 digs per game.
Kelsey Jones averaged 2.86 digs per game, while Abby Miller totaled 2.57 digs per game. Jones also set the team to a .257 attacking efficiency.
Mullikin led the Deacon defense at the net, averaging 2.50 blocks per game.
As a team, the Deacs averaged 23.8 digs per game.
Wake Forest will host Appalachian State on Wednesday, April 9, in a combined training session from 7-9:30 p.m. The session will conclude with an exhibition match between the two squads.
The Deacons will wrap up their spring schedule with a third home invitational on Saturday, April 12, at 9 a.m. The nine-team tournament will include squads from Appalachian State, High Point, N.C. Central, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Radford, Virginia Tech and William & Mary.
Admission at Reynolds Gymnasium is free for all of Wake Forest's spring competition play dates.
