Wake Forest Head Coach Rick Rembielak
Overall thoughts on the game...
"Let me go on record to indicate that I was one of the voters that voted Buster Posey for Player of the Year, in case there was any question about that. We knew what we were going to run into with (Matt) Fairel, and it was no surprise what he did. He throws strikes, but the thing he doesn't do is give good looks to the hitters.
Our guys couldn't square anything up. We just didn't capitalize on the few opportunities that we had early. The thing we needed to do was get to him early in the count and we didn't do that. I think both guys pitched very well and the shield was dented on our end. Their hitters came up and absolutely opened the game up for them. Those were two good pitchers out there first of all and that was a very good ball club that we faced tonight."
On Wake's approach to FSU's junior catcher Buster Posey...
"It's a matter of the pitcher holding himself together as the pitch count gets up there. Against good hitters, you can't let up and make that mistake. Do you think you can go up there and handcuff him all four times at the plate? It's going to be very difficult to do that and you can't lose it on the one at-bat or one pitch. He is an excellent hitter and he knows how to make adjustments. I don't know if that was something he did coming up those last few at-bats, but hitters need to make adjustments. Maybe he saw something out of Ben (Hunter) and he ended up getting a good swing on it, especially the ball to center field. It was like you told him what was coming, he took that good of a swing and that is a sign of a good hitter.
On Wake's letdown when FSU rallied in the 6th inning...
"I think it deflated us. When we went out and got on top, for them to come back like that, it's deflating for any ball club. It was quick. It wasn't like there were a bunch of pitches to get in a jam. It happened so fast. We've been struggling all year to get a lot of runs. Our offense isn't as potent as theirs. Against their pitcher we knew that runs were going to be at a premium, it was just a matter of getting each single out after we got that lead."
Florida State Head Coach Mike Martin
Overall thoughts on the game...
"It was a ballgame that I thought Matt (Fairel) pitched very well, its how the game should be if you make a bad pitch, it should get hit. He had one pitch Dystrka hit but, when you play in a league like this, that's what you come to expect. Big lift for us when Buster hit it out of the ballpark in the 6th to tie it up and then we got a break on a ball that got by the catcher to give us the lead. We were fortunate in a number of ways but it was certainly a well-played game by both teams. A couple of errors, one on each side...a typical ACC game- just solid baseball."
"You got Dennis and Jack (Rye) and certainly the freshman (Stuart Tapley) on the far end gave us a big lift by getting us our first run and those guys are all hitting behind (Buster Posey), then ironically he (Posey) hits the home run to tie the game up. And then he comes up later the next inning and hits a ball out of the ballpark."
Florida State First Baseman Dennis Guinn
On coming back from being down...
"We're going to fight regardless, first inning or 9th inning...down five runs, up five runs. We have that mentality that when we're down we're not going to give up. We got down 3-1, there was no hesitation and no different train of thought. We went back to the dugout...we just knew coming back up we had to respond and we responded in the right way."
Florida State Catcher Buster Posey
On his two homeruns...
"The first one I hit, I was just on it. He had thrown a lot of pitches back-to-back-to-back, and the second one was more reaction. When you're throwing the same pitch over and over again ... 99% of the time it's his fastball."
