Deacs Rise to Seventh Heading into Final Round in Athens

ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 14 Wake Forest women's golf team moved up one spot into seventh place following a 17-over 305 in the second round of the NCAA East Regional in Athens, Ga.
The top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championships at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, May 20-23.
Florida overcame a five-stroke deficit in the second round to overtake Duke for the top spot. The Gators posted a seven-over 295, the best round of the day by any of the 21 participating squads.
Florida leads Duke by three strokes.
Wake was led by Allie Bodemann's three-over 75 Friday. Bodemann entered the second round tied for tied for 77th place but jumped 21 spots to land in a tie for 56th.
Bodemann recorded two birdies on the day.
Nannette Hill turned in the second best performance for the Deacs for the second straight day. The junior carded a four-over 76 and is currently tied for 18th.
Natalie Sheary, who entered the second round in a tie for 10th place, fell into a tie for 33rd place after posting an eight-over 80.
Wake, playing at the UGA Golf Course for the second time this season, is attempting to qualify for its third straight NCAA Championship. The Deacs are three strokes up on ninth-place Virginia.
Laura Crawford posted three birdies on the day for Wake and finished the second round with a five-over 77. Jean Chua matched Crawford for the second day in-a-row, shooting a five-over 77 as well. Chua and Crawford entered the round tied for 38th and fell two spots into 40th heading into the final round.
Crawford, a senior, is playing in her fourth straight NCAA regional. Chua, a junior, is playing in her third consecutive regional.
Chua finished tied for 23rd last season in Baton Rouge.
A high of 88 degrees with a 20 percent chance of rain has been projected for the Athens area for Saturday by Weather.com.
