Wake Forest women's golfer Natalie Sheary has been named All-America Honorable Mention by the National Golf Coaches Association and Golfweek. Sheary is the 11th Wake Forest women's golfer to garner All-America honors.
The selection gives Wake's program four consecutive seasons of All-America selections. Ashley Hoagland was selected to the First Team in 2005 followed by back-to-back honorable mention selections for Mandy Goins in 2006 and 2007.
Sheary, a freshman, won the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. to give the Demon Deacons back-to-back individual medalists for the first time in program history. Her win followed Nannette Hill's victory at the Landfall Tradition.
Sheary was named All-ACC and Freshman of the Year in the conference after posting four top 10 finishes and seven top 20 finishes on the season.
Her victory at the Northrop Grumman made Sheary the first freshman to win an event since Marta Prieto won the ACC Championship in 1998.
Sheary finished fifth at the ACC Championship and 20th at the NCAA East Regional to lead the Deacs to their third consecutive NCAA Championship appearance.
Golfworld selected Sheary, who hails from Hartford, Conn., as its College Female Golfer of the Week following the freshman's win over an impressive field at the Northrop Grumman.
Sheary is the first Wake Forest freshman to be named All-America for women's golf since Alexandra Armas was selected to the second-team in her rookie year of 1995. Stephanie Neill Harner was the first All-America freshman for the Deacons in 1992.
