WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest track and field athletes Jill Ahrens, Caitlin Chrisman and Phillip Warsaw received Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for outstanding performances on the track as well as in the classroom.
Phillip Warsaw, a junior hurdler out of Elizabethtown, Ky., earned first team honors this season. Warsaw is pursuing a degree in Mathematical Economics and currently holds a 3.9 grade point average. In addition to becoming a 6-time Dean's List member in May, Warsaw is a candidate for the prestigious Beinecke Scholarship and is a Golden Key Honour Society member.
On the field, Warsaw holds Wake Forest's 400m hurdle record (51.60) and earned his second consecutive bid to the NCAA Regionals in the 2008 outdoor season. Warsaw posted his top time of the year at the ACC Outdoor Championships, recording a 52.27 performance at host school Georgia Tech.
Warsaw is eligible for national All-Academic honors, which will be released later this week.
Senior pole vaulter Jill Ahrens earned second team honors for her consistently strong performance in both the 2008 indoor and outdoor seasons. At the end of February, Ahrens picked up All-ACC recognition for her third place finish in the pole vault at the ACC Championships. The Houston, Texas native continued to excel in her final season with the Demon Deacons during the outdoor season, topping her own school record with a career-high 12-5.50 finish at the conference tournament.
Ahrens graduated in May with a completed Masters degree in Accountancy.
Caitlin Chrisman also picked up second team honors for the 2007-08 season. At the 2007 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Chrisman finished seventh in the 10,000-meter run and 14th in the 5,000-meter run. As a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society, Chrisman has made the ACC Academic Honor Roll for three years and made the Dean's List five times. Chrisman was also a member of the All-ACC Academic Track and Field team in 2006 and was named to the 2006 USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Track and Field Team.
Chrisman was recently selected for the Weaver-James-Corrigan post-graduate scholarship from the Atlantic Coast Conference. Student-athletes receiving the award have performed with distinction in both the classroom and in their respective sports, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
