WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior Allie Kieffer was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week today following her performance at the Wake Forest Relays. Kieffer's strong outing helped propel Wake Forest to an impressive, season-opening victory over Duke, Elon, High Point and Wingate.
Kieffer earned ACC Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week accolades after winning both the pairings race and the collegiate individual two-leg combined time at the Wake Forest Relays. The West Islip, N.Y., native teamed with redshirt senior Merry Placer to win the 10-kilometer relay with a total time of 35:40, beating their nearest competitors by more than one minute and a half (37:24). In addition, Kieffer was the only student-athlete of 60 runners who completed both of her legs under the nine-minute mark (8:45 and 8:56, respectively).
Kieffer is the first Deacon to be recognized as the ACC Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week since Michelle Sikes was honored on Oct. 2, 2006.
The Wake Forest women's and men's cross country teams will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., on Sept. 13 to attend the North Carolina Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
