
Wake Forest Falls in Three Sets to Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Wake Forest dropped its second-straight match, falling to Indiana 3-0 in the second round of the Adidas Classic Friday evening in Bloomington, Ind. The Hoosiers, who hit a solid .323 for the match, won 25-15, 25-13, 25-19.
The win improves Indiana to 3-2 on the season with Wake also falling to 3-2.
Sophomore setter Kelsey Jones recorded her second-straight double with 23 assists and 10 digs. The double-double was her third of the season and the 16th of her career.
Graduate student Natalie Mullikin finished the match with 10 of the Deacon's 25 kills on the night. Senior Ashley Homitz and sophomore Lauren McIntyre added four kills apiece.
Indiana was paced by Erica Shorts' 16 kills and Ashley Benson's 12 kills and four block assists.
Wake jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first set but Indiana scored six of the next seven points to snag the lead 6-4. The Deacons couldn't halt the run as Indiana extended the lead to as much as eight points at 18-10.
The set ended on three straight attack errors by the Deacs and Indiana took the first set 25-15. Wake had an attack percentage of -.067 in the set compared to .281 for Indiana.
In the second set, the Deacs again opened up an early 6-4 lead but Indiana once again battled back as a Lexie Woodson kill sparked an 8-2 run.
Just like the first set, the Hoosiers continued the run throughout the rest of the set, rolling to a 25-13 victory. The Deacs still couldn't get the offense on the same page, hitting -.033 in the set. Indiana hit a blistering .433 with 16 kills.
The third set started out even with the teams trading points till the score was tied at 10-10. The Hoosiers then went on a 6-2 run prompting the Deacs to take a timeout.
Coming out of the timeout, Wake got a pair of kills from Mullikin and three service errors by Indiana to cut the lead to 19-17. However, the Indiana defense then bowed its neck and helped close out the game on a 6-2 run to win the set and the match 25-19.
Indiana had 38 digs compared to 33 for the Deacs while the Hoosiers also posted eight total blocks to just three for Wake.
The Deacons will look to salvage a win against Valparaiso in the final match of the Adidas Classic Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Wake will then return home to host the Black & Gold Challenge next weekend Sept. 12-13.
